The Kerala Legislative Assembly passed Act 22 of 1996, establishing Kannur University (KU). The University had already come into being under the name "Malabar University" even before the Governor of Kerala issued an Ordinance on November 9, 1995.

The Kannur University Act 1996 established a teaching, residential, and affiliating institution in the Kasargod and Kannur revenue districts and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District in Kerala.     Kannur University Campus Infrastructure

    The university campus is spread across seven different locations in Kerala. Each of these campuses has facilities such as libraries, auditoriums, science laboratories, sports and recreational areas etc. Apart from this, each campus has its own student union which organizes various social events and festivals.
