It was formerly known as Kashi Vidyapith and later on, it was renamed to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith. The university is also known ad MGKVP. The varsity has been inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith is administered under the state legislature of the government of Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Vibhuti Narayan Singh Rural Medical Institute Gangapur Campus, Varanasi.
