The university was established in 1985 as Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute by Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust. In 1994, the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research was declared as a deemed university by the Government of India. SRIHER is a self-financed private institute. Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research has been ranked 79th in NIRF 2021 rankings in the overall category.
