IPMAT 2026: Indore and Rohtak exam snapshot

IPMAT 2026 had IIM Indore on May 4, 2026 (afternoon shift) and IIM Rohtak on May 10, 2026 (morning shift). Both exams were computer-based and allotted 120 minutes each.

Key differences in IPMAT 2026 papers

Indore and Rohtak followed distinct formats. IIM Indore had 90 questions — a mix of MCQs and Short Answer (SA) items. IIM Rohtak had 120 questions , all MCQs.

Marking schemes differed. Indore used +4/-1 for MCQs and no negative marking for short answers. Rohtak applied +4/-1 across all sections.

    Difficulty, seats and cutoffs

Indore was widely seen as tougher because of advanced Quant and SA demands. Rohtak was considered more balanced across QA, LR and VA. In 2025, 30,220 candidates appeared for Indore (for 150 seats) and 14,226 appeared for Rohtak (for 198 seats).

Historically, Indore cutoffs have landed around 164–176 (approx). Eligibility requires a minimum 60% aggregate in board exams.

Prep strategy for Class 12 students

Most aspirants are still doing boards, so manage time. Maintain 1–1.5 hours daily for IPMAT until boards finish. After boards, ramp up to 7–10 hours daily focusing on mocks and weak topics.

Mocks matter: aim for 15–25 full-length mocks before the exam. Increase frequency in the last two weeks and analyse every test thoroughly.

For Indore, prioritise Quant — especially Arithmetic and Algebra — and practice short-answer speed and accuracy. For Rohtak, balance QA, LR and VA with timed sectional practice.

Time-management tips: avoid guesswork where negative marking applies. Attempt MCQs only when you're roughly 70% sure to limit penalties.

Official application timelines, fee structures, admit-card details, reservation breakdown and post-IPMAT selection stages (PI and final merit rules) are not covered in this summary. Check official IIM communications for those specifics.
