The CBSE R3 language circular orders all affiliated schools to finalise or correct their R3 language choices on the OASIS portal by 31 May 2026 .

The circular confirms R3 languages will be introduced in Class VI under the CBSE Scheme of Studies 2026–27 , aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE-2023). Many schools have updated their choices on OASIS, but certain schools are yet to complete the process and a few have uploaded selections contrary to policy recommendations.

CBSE R3 language circular: OASIS deadline and required corrections

OASIS updation is mandatory for compliance, the board says. Schools that have not uploaded R3 selections must finalise and update them on OASIS by 31 May 2026 . Those that entered choices contradicting the policy must modify their entries by the same date.

The instruction is administrative as well as academic: finalisation on OASIS helps the board monitor readiness and ensures schools can plan timetables, staffing and textbooks for Class VI R3 implementation under the R1–R2–R3 model.

CBSE R3 language circular: textbooks, non-scheduled languages and start date

For languages listed in the Constitution of India (scheduled languages), official R3 textbooks will be made available on NCERT and CBSE websites before 01 July 2026 . Schools choosing languages not on the scheduled list must use SCERT or other state-recognised materials and align the curriculum with the competencies in NCFSE-2023.

All affiliated schools that have not yet started teaching at least two native Indian languages under R1, R2 and R3 must commence from 01 July 2026 , the board directs. The circular stresses strict adherence to the curricular goals and competencies prescribed in NCFSE-2023 for both scheduled and non-scheduled language options.

What this means for students: if you study in a CBSE-affiliated school, your school should confirm which R3 language will be taught in Class VI soon. Schools that miss the 31 May 2026 OASIS deadline risk administrative non-compliance and delays in textbook distribution.

The board’s circular focuses on timely OASIS updates, textbook availability and curriculum alignment. It does not detail enforcement or penalties for non-compliance or provide step-by-step OASIS guidance; schools must follow the board’s notes and the NCFSE-2023 competencies while preparing for the academic changes under the CBSE Scheme of Studies 2026–27 .
