Aerospace Engineering in India, even at top IITs like Madras and Bombay, is just average.

At IIT Madras:

The Aerospace Engineering department has around 50 students. Despite the small number, there's big competition to switch streams after the first semester.
Internships are offered in the second year. Top students (based on CGPA) can intern at DRDO. Around 15-20 students get this chance.
The remaining students need to find their own internships in the second year. About 10 students get institute-sponsored internships in their 3rd year.
Getting core placements in Aerospace Engineering can be tough. You need a CGPA of 8.5 or higher for a good job.
