The Mining Engineering program at IIT-BHU is pretty solid. It started way back in 1923 as part of the Geology Department and became its own department in 1944, making it one of the oldest and biggest in India.

The course covers a mix of mechanical, electrical, electronics, earth sciences, computer science, and physics. The department has some well-equipped labs, and the faculty is experienced.

Companies like Coal India, Tata Steel, and Vedanta come for placements. In 2019, the highest package for mining engineers was ₹31 LPA, and the average was ₹12 LPA. Besides core companies, there are opportunities in non-core sectors too. Almost 95% of students get placed every year. In 2019, about 85 students from the mining batch got job offers.
