From what I've heard, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) has some really great professors. A friend who studied there mentioned a few standout names:

Prof. K Jeyaraman (Aeronautical Engineering):
Dr. PK Kanagasabapathy (Instrumentation Engineering)
Dr. A Rajadurai (Metallurgy): Former dean and an expert in his field.

My friend especially admired Late Prof. VK Narayanan, who was always there for his students. He helped students with everything from academics to career advice. One cool thing he did was recommend my friend for a series of lectures on Information Technology at All India Radio. He also helped students get into foreign universities and land jobs at companies like Blackberry.

Prof. KVN even helped my friend build a website for MIT, teaching him HTML and setting up official MIT emails. So yeah, sounds like MIT has some truly dedicated and supportive professors!
