So, at IIT BHU, you gotta have at least 85% attendance in each course. Most students find this rule a bit of a pain, but they don't really fight it. Why? Well, if you don't keep up with the attendance, the institute can take action against you. Like, they might not let you take the end-of-semester exam, or they could even cancel your registration for the course.

If you mess up and don't get that 85%, you could end up with a Z grade for the course. And that grade sticks around on your record until you pass the course. Nobody wants that, right? Plus, almost all IITs have similar rules.

Missing classes without a good reason isn't really excused. You can only get leave in special cases. If you're sick, you can stay home, but you need to give them an application with a doctor's note. Also, if you're going somewhere for a competition, you can ask for leave. The college usually gives you leave if you really need it.
