CSU selects candidates for the scholarship based on their merit and how well they meet the eligibility criteria. A scholarship committee does the selection. They give preference to students in traditional/oriental studies, followed by honors and M.A. students. For modern stream students, merit is calculated only on the basis of marks in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit. In the Traditional stream or Honours in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit, the overall percentage of all subjects is considered.
