Generally, if you're doing your MS or M.Tech at IIT Madras, you'll probably be staying in one of these hostels:

Brahmaputra
Pampa
Mahanadi
Tambi
Sindhu
Krishna
Cauvery
Sarayu (for girls)
Sabarmati (also for girls)

Most research scholars are in Krishna and Cauvery, and they've got their own mess. For the other hostels, you can pick from six different caterers at the Himalaya mess. Usually, there's one food court, three South Indian options, one North Indian, and one mess just for girls. Girls can eat with the guys, but not the other way around. Plus, some hostels have vending machines for snacks and drinks.

If you're looking for more options, there's Zaitoon on campus that serves both North and South Indian food, both veg and non-veg. They even do online orders and room delivery. And the IRCTC canteen is open 24/7. You can always head outside the campus too!
