Eligibility

To be considered for the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship for India 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of India.
  • Enroll as a new international student in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program at the University of Waikato.
  • Possess a minimum GPA equivalency of B+ in the qualification required for admission.
  • Have received a conditional or unconditional offer of place from the University of Waikato.

Please note: Applicants admitted through sponsoring bodies, guaranteed credit arrangements, study abroad programs, or student exchange agreements are not eligible.

Ineligibility:

Applicants are ineligible if they:

  • Are currently enrolled at the University of Waikato College or any University of Waikato degree program.
  • Have already paid tuition fees or applied for a visa at the time of application.
  • Are enrolling via a sponsoring body, on a Guaranteed Credit Arrangement, or through a study abroad or student exchange agreement.
  • Are offshore applicants applying on or after:
    • 31st December for A Trimester
    • 30th April for B Trimester
    • 31st August for C Trimester
    • 31st October for H or X Trimester
Benefits

Recipients of the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship for India 2025 will receive a one-time scholarship ranging from NZD 2,500 to NZD 15,000. This amount will be applied towards the first 12 months of study at the University of Waikato, distributed evenly across two trimesters.

The selection panel includes the chair of the Scholarships Committee and the Director International (or their nominees). The panel's decisions are final, and no further communication will be entered into after the selection meeting.

Terms & Conditions

The following terms and conditions apply to the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship for India 2025:

  • The scholarship will be directly applied to the recipient’s tuition fees for the agreed program of study upon enrolment or completion of enrolment.
  • Recipients must reside in New Zealand, remain full-time students on campus, and maintain international student status for the duration of the scholarship. Changes may result in scholarship removal.
  • Students with a pathway offer will have their scholarship applied to their degree program after successfully completing the pathway program.
  • Applications are ranked by the International Office and forwarded to the Selection Panel, whose decisions are final.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with other University of Waikato-funded scholarships or Education New Zealand scholarships.
  • By accepting the scholarship, recipients agree to participate in publicity arranged by the University of Waikato.
  • The Scholarships Committee may amend these regulations without altering the scholarship's main purpose.
  • Students must inform the committee of any changes affecting eligibility.
  • The scholarship may be terminated if the recipient is deemed unworthy, brings disrepute, or violates rules. The recipient may appeal termination decisions.
