    Alternative Assessment and Digital Evaluation

CBSE has clarified how it will evaluate Class 12 papers cancelled in West Asian centres between March 16 - April 10, 2026 . The Board says the Alternative Assessment and Digital Evaluation plan relies on internal school data, On‑Screen Marking and a July supplementary exam option for students who want to reappeal.

Alternative Assessment and Digital Evaluation: how marks will be calculated

For subjects whose exams were cancelled in affected West Asian countries — including the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran — CBSE will use internal school records to award theory marks. For major subjects the Board will apply the Best of Three rule for the theory component considered 70 out of 80 marks, taking the highest score from the quarterly, half‑yearly or final pre‑board exams.

Vocational and skill subjects will be assessed primarily on final pre‑board performance. Practical marks and internal assessment entries already uploaded by schools will remain unchanged and will be added to the calculated theory scores.

CBSE also confirms On‑Screen Marking (OSM) for examinations that were conducted. Answer sheets were scanned and evaluated on secure digital platforms to reduce totalling errors and speed up result processing.

Alternative Assessment and Digital Evaluation: who is eligible and next steps

Students registered with CBSE in the affected West Asia centres are eligible for this alternative assessment. Over 18.5 lakh candidates were registered globally with the Board for this exam cycle.

Those who are dissatisfied with marks awarded through the alternative method, or who missed papers entirely because of the cancellations, can opt to appear in a physical supplementary exam scheduled for July 2026 . CBSE says results are tentatively expected to be published on the official website cbse.gov.in .

Practical or internal assessment marks will not be changed under this scheme. Schools are the primary point of contact — their uploaded internal data forms the basis of the alternative evaluations.

This announcement aims to keep students on track for university admissions and to provide a clear path for those who prefer a fresh, physical sitting in July.

Authorities: These details come from the Board’s clarifications and official CBSE guidance to schools and exam centres.
