CBSE Class 12 results 2026: Brittas seeks review of OSM, revaluation and portal glitches

Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas wrote to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on May 21, 2026 , raising concerns over the CBSE Class 12 results 2026 and urging an independent academic and technical review of the evaluation process.

Brittas highlighted a fall in the overall pass percentage from 88.39% in 2025 to 85.20% in 2026 — a decline of 3.19 percentage points — and linked the drop to the introduction of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, reportedly tougher question papers and stricter valuation.

Why Brittas flagged CBSE Class 12 results 2026

The MP pointed to reports of unusually high discrepancies in subjects such as Physics and Mathematics and cited cases where students cleared competitive exams like JEE and NEET but allegedly failed Class XII papers. He said such instances raised concerns about "consistency, calibration and transitional preparedness" during the shift to digital evaluation.

Brittas acknowledged that OSM aims to improve transparency and eliminate totalling errors, but said that large-scale implementation required a "compassionate and calibrated approach" given the academic stakes for lakhs of students.

What Brittas asked the Education Ministry over CBSE Class 12 results 2026

In his letter dated May 21, 2026 , Brittas asked the ministry to direct the Central Board of Secondary Education to conduct an independent academic and technical review of the OSM system. He also sought consideration of moderation or normalisation while the board transitions to digital evaluation.

He recommended revising the revaluation framework so students can retain the higher of the original and revised marks, noting that the present mechanism allows marks to either increase or decrease and can deter students from seeking reassessment.

Brittas flagged serious technical problems with the CBSE answer-sheet access and revaluation portal — including login failures, payment errors, repeated crashes and prolonged downtime — and urged immediate restoration and stabilisation of the portal. He also requested an extension of application timelines to ensure students are not disadvantaged by these glitches.

Students must use the CBSE answer-sheet access portal to apply for revaluation, and the MP’s letter emphasises that portal reliability is essential for fair access to remedies.

Brittas closed his letter by stressing the urgency and sensitivity of the matter, saying the academic future of lakhs of young students was at a "delicate and decisive juncture." The letter asks the ministry to intervene and direct CBSE action; there was no response from the board included in the letter.
