The principal of KPS Inter College, Shashibhushan Singh, was arrested late Thursday in connection with the KPS Inter College scholarship embezzlement probe after an FIR was filed over Rs 16,78,500 meant for minority scholarships.
District Magistrate Indramani Tripathi said the amount was released to KPS Inter College, Dodapur Tilyani, in 2021-22 for scholarships listed for 285 registered students. An inquiry launched in 2025 followed a complaint from an assistant clerk of the district Minority Welfare Department.
KPS Inter College scholarship embezzlement: Probe findings
The departmental probe found many listed beneficiaries were non-existent or were studying at other institutions, the DM said. Mobile numbers provided for the alleged students were found to be fake.
Teachers at the college told investigators there were no records showing distribution of the scholarship money to students. The inquiry therefore flagged discrepancies between department records and the college's rolls.
KPS Inter College scholarship embezzlement: FIR and arrests
An FIR was registered at Bewar police station on July 20, 2025 against principal Shashibhushan Singh and manager Priyanshu Pratap Singh for alleged embezzlement of funds meant for 285 minority students.
Police arrested the principal from his residence on Thursday night. The college manager, Priyanshu Pratap Singh, is currently absconding and police said efforts are underway to trace him.
The complaint that triggered the probe was lodged by an assistant clerk of the district Minority Welfare Department. Acting on the complaint and the department inquiry, police moved quickly to register the case and make the arrest.
What students and parents need to know
The funds in question were earmarked for minority scholarship beneficiaries registered with KPS Inter College in 2021-22 . Authorities found no proof those scholarships reached the listed students.
Officials have not yet released details about any recovery of funds or disciplinary steps beyond the FIR and arrest. The district administration and police are handling the criminal investigation.
Local authorities say the case highlights gaps found during routine verification of scholarship beneficiaries. Further updates will follow as the police tracing of the manager and the ongoing probe progress.
