The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued the NEET UG 2026 advisory on April 30, 2026 , setting out clothing, footwear and item rules for the exam scheduled on May 3, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM .

The advisory aims to speed up security checks and prevent malpractice. Candidates must carry their admit card and a valid identity card and follow the dress and reporting instructions at all centres.

NEET UG 2026 advisory: Clothing and footwear rules

NTA asks candidates to wear light-coloured, simple clothing without heavy embroidery or metallic buttons. Full-sleeve or woollen garments are permitted only if the candidate reports to the centre early to allow thorough frisking.

Footwear guidance is clear: slippers or low heels are preferred. Candidates are discouraged from wearing closed shoes or high heels to avoid delays during security checks.

NEET UG 2026 advisory: Prohibited items and security checks

Electronic devices are banned inside the hall — this includes watches, smartwatches and fitness trackers. Heavy jewellery such as bangles and bracelets should be left at home.

Only transparent water bottles will be allowed inside the examination hall. Metal hair clips and belts with large buckles are also prohibited to simplify metal-detection procedures.

Religious attire such as hijabs, turbans or other faith-based clothing is permitted, but candidates must report early for additional frisking and verification to avoid entry delays.

Timing, arrival and immediate student impact

The exam duration is 3 hours . NTA recommends candidates arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time to complete entry formalities and frisking. Late arrivals could face denied entry depending on centre rules and verification time.

Following the advisory will reduce waiting time at gates and help centres start the examination on schedule. Carry only permitted items listed on the admit card along with your identity proof.
