Facial-biometric check JEE Main 2026: live photo capture at centres

Facial-biometric checks were introduced from the January 2026 JEE Main session and continue for the April 2026 sittings. The system captures a live photo at the exam centre and matches it with your registration photo to prevent impersonation.

Facial-biometric check JEE Main 2026: what is collected and why

At the centre your live photo and a fingerprint (thumb or index) are taken. Some centres may also collect iris scans or signature verification. Aadhaar data may be used for quick matching where applicable; the measure is aimed at preventing impersonation and cheating.

Facial-biometric check JEE Main 2026: stepwise verification and typical timings

Follow this usual order at most centres; times are averages from official guidelines and test-centre reports.

    Step Typical time Tip
Admit card + original photo ID check ~30 seconds Keep printed admit card ready
Frisking (metal detector) ~1 minute No phones or metal items
Fingerprint scan ~20 seconds Hands clean and dry
Facial biometric (live photo) 15–30 seconds Remove caps, masks, scarves; remove glasses if asked
Aadhaar quick match (if used) ~30 seconds Unlock Aadhaar biometrics if using Aadhaar

Overall, a full biometric check usually takes 1–2 minutes if there are no mismatches or technical issues. Arrive 1.5–2 hours before your shift to avoid delays.

    Documents, printouts and on-day rules

You must carry the printed JEE Main 2026 April session admit card; soft copies are not allowed. Also bring the original photo ID you uploaded during registration (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence).

You need two passport-size photos (one pasted on the admit card) and a printed, signed self-declaration form. If you plan to use Aadhaar, make sure biometrics are unlocked via the mAadhaar app or the UIDAI site.

    Document Required?
    Printed admit card Yes
Original photo ID (same as uploaded) Yes
Two passport photos (one pasted) Yes
Self-declaration form (printed & signed) Yes
Mismatch certificate (if photo mismatch) Yes, attested

If the live photo does not match your registration or Aadhaar photo, bring a mismatch certificate signed by a principal, headmaster or a gazetted officer as allowed by the exam authority.

Quick on-day checks for smooth verification

Remove caps, masks and scarves before facial capture. Keep hands clean and dry for fingerprint scans. If asked, remove spectacles to help facial matching.
