The chief minister and education minister Bratya Basu will meet next week to discuss the four-year UG programme in greater detail.
KOLKATA: Education Minister Bratya Basu said the government will make a final decision on the topic next week, despite complaints from instructors and students regarding the delay in the anticipated commencement of the 4-year honours programme at the undergraduate level in state-run and assisted higher educational institutions. On Friday, Basu revealed this to the media as he was leaving an event. I'll meet with the chief minister the following week to have in-depth discussions about the matter (4-year UG course). When asked about the commencement of four-year UG degrees in state-run and -aided higher educational institutions, he told reporters, "We will come up with the notice subsequently.
Some college administrators and teacher associations have raised worry about the delay in the official announcement that the state's honours programme will now last four years instead of three.
Siuli Sarkar, the principal of the publicly funded Lady Brabourne College, told PTI, "We had taken part in several workshops on the New Education Policy up till mid-May. We even expressed our opinions to the higher education department's advisory council, but no such communiqué has been issued. If questioned, we must describe the four-year honours programme. However, the administration has not yet given notice of the situation. said Sarkar.
Nobody genuinely knows when the notification on the UG honours course would reach the higher educational institutions, according to Subhoday Dasgupta, president of the West Bengal College and University Teachers Association, who spoke to PTI. "To our dismay, this state government had accepted the NEP 2020 draught recommendations early this year and announced it will have four-year honours courses instead of the hitherto studied three-year honours," he continued.
