IISER Kolkata is generally considered a great option for academics, research, and student life. Many of its alumni are at reputed universities like Caltech, Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, and Cornell.

The institute has a very active research culture and publishes many research papers. IISER Kolkata also hosts Vijyoshi, a camp that provides a forum for aspiring researchers to interact and share ideas.

Campus life is good. Although there were some political issues in the past, the campus environment has improved a lot recently.
