NEET UG 2026 paper leak triggered the cancellation of the exam held on May 3, 2026 , after police said a physical copy was allegedly leaked from a printing press in Nashik.

The allegation includes that the leaked copy reached a doctor in Gurugram, a claim investigators are still probing. The Indian Medical Association, Gurugram chapter, says no investigating agency has contacted it yet.

The government ordered a comprehensive inquiry and the CBI registered an FIR that names offences including criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita . The FIR also invokes provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act 2024 .

Multiple special teams have been dispatched to various locations. The CBI will collect material from the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG), which had earlier provided leads on a circulated chemistry "guess paper." A man was detained in Nashik and Rajasthan Police said a team will take his custody.

Rajasthan Police SOG told investigators that an allegedly circulated chemistry "guess paper" contained about 410 questions , of which roughly 120 matched questions that appeared in the original NEET question paper. Authorities are examining custody transfers and chains of possession to trace how the paper moved from the press to any alleged recipients.

The probe is ongoing and details about suspects' identities and formal charges beyond the FIR categories have not been released.

Immediate impact on students and next steps

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts NEET for undergraduate medical admissions, said fresh exam dates will be notified in the next seven to ten days . The cancellation has sparked widespread anger among aspirants, with some groups demanding the exam be held under AIIMS-Delhi supervision.

Coaching providers have already announced options for affected students; one institute is offering a Re-NEET batch starting May 16, 2026 with a promotional enrolment fee of Rs. 99 . Authorities have not yet issued guidance on counselling timelines or admission schedules.

Investigators from CBI, Rajasthan Police SOG and Maharashtra police continue their work. No official statement from the CBI detailing the full scope of the probe has been released so far.

Authorities have said they will update procedures and next steps as the inquiry progresses. Students are advised to watch announcements from the NTA and follow official channels for fresh exam dates and instructions.
