What NEET Re-Exam 2026 means for you
Candidates who appeared on May 3, 2026 —over 22 lakh students across 5,400+ centres—must retain their original registration number. The NTA FAQ clarifies there will be no change of Category or State of Eligibility for the re-exam. Overseas and NRI registrations remain valid.
The syllabus and exam pattern remain unchanged. The Government has also promised coordinated transportation support for candidates on the re-test day.
CBI probe, arrests and findings
The Central Bureau of Investigation is leading the criminal probe into the paper leak. The CBI has arrested five people across Jaipur, Gurugram and Nashik and says it identified an insider within the NTA as a source of leaked material.
Investigators report a 150-page PDF and that leaked material matched 120+ questions from the paper. Law enforcement blocked 120+ Telegram channels , seized evidence and froze 21 bank accounts linked to the syndicate. Reported black-market prices ranged from Rs 2 lakh–Rs 30 lakh for access to the leaked content.
Transition to CBT and security steps
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced a permanent shift to Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode from 2027 . For the June re-test, NTA is considering hybrid measures such as just-in-time digital delivery of question sets to centres to prevent physical leaks. The NTA says stricter chain-of-custody and digital-locking steps are under review.
Legal action and oversight
The matter has drawn petitions in the Supreme Court and a FAIMA plea seeking court-monitored conduct for the re-exam. NTA and the Government say they will cooperate with judicial and investigative authorities.
If you appeared on May 3, keep your original credentials safe, watch for the June 14 admit card release, and use the NTA helpline for clarifications. Stay alert to official NTA announcements only.
