IIT Bombay placements salary hiring rate: 70% hiring, average CTC Rs.26.45L in 2024-25

IIT Bombay's placement report for the 2024-25 academic year shows a hiring rate of 70% among students who participated, even as average compensation improved. A total of 2,040 students registered and took part in the placement process.

IIT Bombay placements salary hiring rate: key numbers

The institute reported an increase in pay alongside a small fall in placements. The average CTC rose to Rs. 26.45 lakh per annum , an approximate 10% year-on-year jump, while the median salary moved up to Rs. 20 lakh . The placement rate dropped from 75% in the previous year to 70% this season.

IIT Bombay placements salary hiring rate: sector-wise offers

Recruiters spread offers across several sectors. Major numbers from the report include:

    • Engineering and technology: 429 offers
    • IT and software coding: 316 offers
    • Consulting: 126 offers
    • Data analytics: 114 offers
    • Finance: 112 offers
    • International offers: 65 offers across Japan, Taiwan, Europe and the US

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department placed 258 out of 277 participating students.

Who did not sit the placement cycle

The institute recorded a notable number of opt-outs. Several students chose entrepreneurship or higher studies instead of campus placements. PhD and postdoctoral candidates were among those who skipped the placement cycle to pursue research or advanced degrees.

Immediate student impact and what the numbers mean

For students who secured offers, pay packages improved even as fewer participants received offers overall. The mix of stronger average and median salaries with a lower placement rate suggests hiring remained selective but lucrative for successful candidates.

IIT Bombay released these figures as its official placement report for the 2024-25 academic year. The report does not include department-wise salary breakdowns, top recruiter names, highest or lowest CTCs, or role-level details.

For students tracking campus hiring trends, the report highlights steady salary growth amid a slightly tighter hiring environment.
