Higher education institutions (HEIs) in the nation will be digitalized using the open source project SAMARTH. A project of the Union Ministry of Education, SAMARTH provides more than 40 software modules for the control of various processes in five essential areas of university operations and administration, including admissions. Since 2019, SAMARTH has been expanded to a variety of higher education institutions, including colleges, NITs, IIITs, IIMs, IISERs, state universities, central universities, and other institutions of national significance.
The DHE has made clear its intention to handle college admissions through the SAMARTH e-Gov suite, despite the fact that many universities are unsure if they will need to transition over to SAMARTH for the upcoming admissions, which will begin in June.
